While it can be a real challenge to learn how to surf many people find buying the perfect surfboard almost as challenging. When you look around the beach almost everyone seems to have a custom board. Even young kids will have colorful custom painted boards while teenagers will sport wildly painted boards to suit their personality.
Adults will even have specialized boards that they can use for years and years. When it comes to buying a surfboard the paint job of the board is not the most important thing to consider. When choosing from all the different surfboards for sale your main considerations are how you will use the board and the size of the board.
Those of you who want to have awesome moves out there should consider buying a short board. This will allow you to maneuver easier than you would with a beginner board. A good short board will be between 6 and 10 inches higher than you if you put it on its end. If you are above average height you may want to consider getting a board that is slightly longer. You want a board that is thicker and wider than a regular board as well. A type of surfboard known as a fish may be a good choice as it is shorter and wider than a regular board.
Someone who is just learning but does not have much time to give to the sport should think about buying a fun board. These boards are similar to the standard long board except they are thicker and wider. They give the beginning surfer additional stability. While it can be much simpler to learn to surf using a fun board, a fish will give you greater ease of movement.
The best choice for a casual surfer is most likely a long board. They make it really easy to learn and get the casual surfer up to speed quickly. The biggest drawback to buying a long board is their price. You will usually pay more for a long board than any other type of board.
