Sinking is something that happens. Granted, it thankfully happens a lot less these days but they do still happen all around the world, even on five star cruises. There are a lot more ships that head towards the bottom of the sea than say planes that fall to earth, so knowing what to do in the event of a sinking could serve you well. Here are the top 5 tips you need to pay attention to

Life jacket. If you do nothing else in your attempt to survive, make sure you wear a life jacket. This piece of equipment is responsible for saving more lives than any other. The two main reasons are that on a sinking ship when you are very disorientated, a life jacket will always pull you towards the surface. Secondly, there is no way that you can tread water or swim indefinitely, so a lifejacket will be need to keep you from drowning

Keep calm
. The majority of survivors from sinking ships attribute their survival to staying calm. You use up a great deal more energy when you become panicked and the choices you make are often not the best as you head is not clear. Sinking ships rarely go down rapidly, so just remind yourself to calm down and make clear choices and actions

Be on the ships deck
.When you know that a boat is heading towards to bottom, being below the deck is not where you want to be. There are a lot more hazards below deck and you can easily get trapped in rooms or pockets of water. Get the top of the ship as soon as you can and do not budge

Swim away from ship. The idea that when a boat sinks it sucks down all that is around it has been suggested to be false when people have performed crude tests. However, there is no way anyone can replicate the scenario of large ship going down and survives of such events have claimed this does happen. Rather than take your chances, you should move away from a ship that is going down by at least fifty metres

Stay in a group. Getting into a big group when you are in the water is the best thing you can do, provided you no not have a life boat that is. This will help keep everyone warm, will deter any predators as they rarely attack big objects and will help you to be spotted be passing ships or rescue parties.

If you’re looking for very safe cruises try a river cruise alternatively for a cruise agent with high saftey records go to Peter Deilmann Cruises

There are a couple of computer games that I have played recently that have led me to seriously think about going on one of those brilliant luxury cruises I have heard so much about.

Cruise ship Tyccon is the first and most obvious on the list
This game is the most realistic game that inspired me to look into going on a cruise holiday. Basically all you have to do is run a cruise ship for yourself. This game lets you go to anyplace on the ship from the casino right the way to the captains quarters. This is brilliant as in the ships featured in the game are all based on real ships which makes it perfect as you can see exactly what you can do on a ship without even having to visit a travel agent or website. You also get to see how hard it is to keep the ship running which although unnecessary for people on the actual holiday I thought it was very interesting to see myself.

Splinter Cell Double Agent is next on the list
Quite a surprising one here as the point of this mission in the game is to actually plant a bomb on the ship but don’t worry its all to do with terrorists and what not. When I was playing this game it is safe to say the graphics are so good I didn’t even need to go and look at a website to see what a luxury ship looked like which is one of the reason this game is on the list. This level is great as you are not restricted on where you can go on the ship so you can fully explore and see the detail that went into the game as again it was based on a real luxury cruise ship.

Mario Kart- Yea I know, how on earth
This is rather crazy I know but there is a level in the game that you get to drive around on a luxury cruise ship and no it doesn’t matter that it is Princess Daisy’s ship and not a real thing it still shows how big one of these ships are? Well in all honesty you could if there wasn’t anyone onboard which is the case in this game.

So there you have it and it gets even better as I am actually going to book a holiday with Regent Cruises today so all I can say is thank you gaming!

I have come to the conclusion that going on one of those great luxury cruise ships is actually worth all the money as well as being a lot better than taking a plane there. Could it really be better than flying?

No  hassle arriving fifty hours before so your bags can be checked, that is done quickly which is great you wont need to get up that early to get there as its all a lot quicker.  As well as this there is no waiting to get to your destination as essentially as soon as you board the ship you are at your hotel room and can lie down and rest or jump straight into the pool.

There are also casinos, free room service, and bars to go to as soon as you step foot onto the ship. Free drinks are only available on planes if you are travelling long haul with one of the expensive airlines like BA or Virgin.

The best thing about it is you actually get to have legroom which is great compared to a plane! Welcome to a way of travelling without being squashed in for however many hours, go anywhere on the ship you can even take a jog on the jogging track.

Of course if something does happen all you have to do is get into a lifeboat rather than jump down a huge inflatable slide or worse die on impact. No real threat from terrorism on a cruise ship, not at the moment anyway! All you really need to worry about are pirates and that is only if you are near the pirate zones.

There is of course always the possibilty that a storm will occur and if that happens it won’t ruin the holiday just head downstairs for a nice dip in the pool or have a bite to eat!

I have to admit I love flying and I would never say cruise every year instead of flying to your favourite destination but going on a luxury cruise is nice every so often and with Regent Cruises (the one I went with) you are sure to have a better time than on an aeroplane.

Until recently, it was quite easy to find cheap Alaska cruise pricing. Now, such bargains are getting harder and harder to find, with demand for Alaska cruises going through the roof.

So how can you save money on your cruise? Does the possibility even still exist to see Alaska and stay on a budget? The answer is a resounding YES! You can still find great Alaska cruise deals — if you know when and where to look.

Many people assume that the best way to find discount Alaska cruises is to wait until the last minute. But while this method used to work reasonably well (and still works very well for Caribbean cruises, due to the larger number of ships in that region), it is no longer a very effective strategy for Alaskan cruises.

Alaskan ships often sell out far in advance for the months of July and August. Despite their higher cost, balcony rooms tend to be the first to sell out, especially on Holland America cruises. So if you are set on booking a balcony room in either July or August, your best bet is to book well in advance. (Alaska cruises can be booked up to 18 months ahead of their sale date.)

Of course, if you are more flexible about your sail date and/or your room category, you increase your likelihood of finding some great Alaska cruise deals.

The best months for deals are May and September, the beginning and end of the Alaska cruise season. The lowest priced Alaska cruise fares of all can be found in the very first week of the month of May, at the very start of the Alaska cruise season, when fares can be half the price of mid-summer fares.

Of course you can also save by booking a lower priced room category. Cabins located on the interior of the ship are as much as 50% to 70% less than those located on the outside of the ship. Inside rooms have no windows and can be a little smaller than ocean view rooms, but they can be a wonderful bargain, especially since many people spend so little times in their rooms anyway.

Inside rooms are definitely not for claustrophobes. Nonetheless, you can still find a great Alaskan cruise deal on an outside room. A certain percentage of outside cabins on most cruise ships possess obstructed views of the eater, due frequently to a lifeboat outside the cabin window. These obstructed view cabins are often quite a bit cheaper than regular ocean view rooms. In fact, obstructed view cabins can be as almost as cheap as inside rooms, yet they have windows that admit sunlight and can help ease claustrophobia.

So there are still a number of ways to find discount Alaska cruises. Remember, even with rising prices, cruises still represent an incredible bargain. For less than the price of a nice hotel, they include food, entertainment, transportation, and, in Alaska, glacier viewing too.

In the past years, cruise holidays have become a billion dollar industry with many people taking two or three cruises every year. This make has necessitated a broadening of cruise destination, including into areas that you would never have thought of. With different categories of places it will depend on the personal preference of the people who are cruising.

People can get their cruise ideas from the internet or websites that focus on different cruises and cruise lines. Some people choose to ask people they know what ships they would recommend for the best cruise experience. You need to use some sort of system to get the right information because this can be the difference beetween a holiday or a disaster.

Caribbean Islands as a destination

Caribbean island are chosen when people plan their cruises because they are safe, clean, and full of trained professionals who’s one job is to make your trip fun. The islands have attractions that have entertained cruise passengers for years. Some attractions are beaches, great forest, fresh foods live party music.

There are many cruise lines that will offer a cruise package for their guests that include additional items to make the cruises even more memorable for a single price. These additional items may include shipboard credits, terrycloth bathrobes, tickets for shore excursions, or items that can be enjoyed in the cabin. Having these items included in the cabin price saves the person that is planning the cruises from having to find all of these items on their own and scheduling them on their own.

Dont forget Historic Cities

There are many historic cities that have been preserved by the countries to turn them into the perfect destinations for cruises. Most of these places try to keep the original historic feel of the city by keeping the original architecture and restoring any areas of the city that has fallen into disrepair. The facilities of these cities will have been upgraded to provide all of the modern conveniences but these conveniences are often hidden from direct sight so they do not disrupt the natural feel of the area. Some historic cities have been turned into premiere tourist destinations by their leaders in order to be more attractive to people that are looking for a destination for their cruises.
