Still, since recently a known programmer developed a software program that can do just that. And he proved the entire world he can control his Mazda from distance just by using his ipod Touch.
The software programs he has developed and installed on the ipod can show the user the exact horse power a car has, the speed you’re driving at, fuel level, temperature, water levels and so on. It also performs basic functions like closing or locking the doors, opening them, turning on and off the engine, the front lights and many more.
The car’s computer is linked to a small laptop with the installed software that has a 3G modem attached. This is how the ipod becomes a remote control for the car. It’s wonderful that people will be able to open the car’s doors or close then even if they left the car at home and they are already two cities away. But we must consider the safety here. What if someone hacks into the system? If the car can be controlled so well, then probably the audio system can also be tracked, maybe people could listen to our conversations.
You have to consider safety and accuracy before getting something like this for your car. It would be too funny to use such a sophisticated program and run off battery on the ipod.
